Crawford’s champion coach

LONEHILL - Oliver Whiteley, hockey coach at Crawford College Lonehill and Southern Gauteng hockey player, had a hand to play in securing a semi-final spot for his team.

Whiteley attended the Inter-provincial Hockey Tournament in Cape Town.

In the pool games Southern Gauteng faced Eastern Province. Whiteley’s team was able to win 5-0, and dominated the competition for three days securing wins over North West, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal Inlands, winning 4-0, 4-1 and 5-2, respectively.

The team lost to Western Province, which resulted in the team ending up second in Pool A, but they still qualified for the semi-finals.

They played the top team in Pool B, which was the KZN Raiders. The game resulted 4-1 in Southern Gauteng’s favour.

Whiteley was appointed as hockey coach at Crawford Lonehill at the begining of the year due to him being selected for the national men’s hockey team. His latest experience on the AstroTurf will hopefully ensure the school becoming a dominat force in schools’ hockey.
