Waterpolo action at Crawford College Lonehill

LONEHILL- Crawford College Lonehill hosted the third annual Shaun Fuchs U15 waterpolo tournament.

From 21 to 23 February the school took on the challenge to host an U15 girls’ tournament. There are no tournaments held at national level for U15 female waterpolo players, therefore Crawford College thought it would be appropriate to host a tournament of this nature.

The tournament allows teams from across the country to participate in what is now one of the premier competitions for girls’ junior waterpolo. Teams gained valuable experience, as they competed for top honours in the pool.

Only the best skills were on display in the pool and each team played to their full potential. However, as the weekend progressed four teams emerged as the semi-finalists. In the first semi-final Collegiate Girls’ High School beat Clarendon High School. In the second semi-final Stirling High School beat St Mary’s School. This set up a final between Stirling and Collegiate. The game was a tightly contested affair. Each team showed why they were worthy finalists and in the end it was Stirling that pulled through with a stunning 25m goal in the final seconds of the game.

This result meant Stirling won the tournament for the first time.
