Lionel van Niekerk was Fourways High’s dux scholar for 2010. Upon matriculating he received the Vice-Chancellor’s scholarship to study at the University of the Witwatersrand. The scholarship is awarded to the 10 top matriculants in the country who want to study at the university. The scholarship was re-awarded to him for his second and third years of study.
On 6 April van Niekerk graduated cum laude from BSC Statistics and Actuarial Science and was the top graduate in his class.
He also received the Sanlam prize for Actuarial Science I, II and III and the best mark in Actuarial Science and was awarded the Liberty gold medal for the highest marks in Actuarial Science III.
