CPF and police partner for awareness day

FOURWAYS - The Douglasdale police and Sector 4 community policing forum (CPF) went all out for their awareness day at Fourways Crossing.

The day featured a special performance by the official South African Police Service band, horse rides by the mounted unit and lots of information about both the Douglasdale police and the police service as a whole.

According to Peter Rosema of the Douglasdale Sector 4 CPF, the aim of the awareness day was to acquaint the public with the police and the CPF. It also allowed residents to speak to police officers informally thereby making the police more approachable.

The festive sounds of the police band drew residents who enjoyed interacting with the police horses, and also got a chance to see police vehicles up close and personal. Station commander of Douglasdale police, Brigadier Leon Kruger was also in attendance and spoke to members of the public about the station and how to go about reporting a crime.

The Douglasdale police precinct stretches from Lonehill in the east to Northriding in the west, Diepsloot in the north to the N1 motorway in the south. According to the Douglasdale Sector 4 CPF, the collaboration between the community and the police helps the police obtain all possible information about crimes that have been committed.

The CPF facilitates a two-way flow of information between the community and the police. It also co-ordinates community involvement with the police and thereby reduces crime.
