Justice for murdered pensioner

DOUGLASDALE - Douglasdale police detectives managed to crack the case of a 57-year-old woman who was found murdered at a Douglasdale retirement village.

According to Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police the incident happened on 23 April 2014. A 20-year-old man entered the home of the pensioner to steal her cellphone and laptop, however the house robbery led to the murder of the woman. The suspect was tracked down using cellphone records and the case took six weeks to solve.

Colonel Devisolachana Naidoo who supervised the investigating officers on the case said the officers did extremely well considering they had no information or leads to start off with. “After intense investigation they made a break through,” Naidoo said. “I didn’t think this case would ever get solved but due to the dedication of the officers we’ve managed to find the suspect.”

The case is currently being heard in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
