Security company gets reality check

FOURWAYS - The staff of Fourways-based security company, Nightguard have become celebrities after their self-titled reality show premiered on Fox Crime two weeks ago.

Nightguard is a family business which started in the ’70s. Brothers Zane, Moolie and JP Eblen head up the company and are the stars of the new reality show. “We grew up in the security business so its all we really know,” JP said. “Both sides of our family come from a strong military background.” Zane explained that the idea for the reality show came after Nightguard provided security for a filming company on one of their shoots. To the brothers’ surprise, when the shoot ended the filming company approached them with the idea of a reality show based on their exploits. Moolie explained that it took a while to get used to the cameras, but it helped that all the cameramen were fit and could keep up with the security staff.

“One of the cameramen actually overtook Zane while he was chasing a suspect the other day,” JP said laughingly. The brothers explained that while the show did chronicle their work, it also captured the lighter side of the company’s life back at the office. “There’s a lot of teasing and pranking that goes on at the office,” JP said. “We work in a hectic industry so we have to see the funny side of life.”

Zane mentioned that another aspect of the show that was very important was that it highlighted the amount of training the staff had to undergo. “We respond to some crazy scenes and we have to react quickly,” Zane said. When asked what viewers can look forward to on the show, all brothers unanimously agreed that they couldn’t give too much away. “You’ll just have to stay tuned,” JP said.

‘Nightguard’ is broadcast across Africa on the Fox Crime channel every Tuesday at 8:30pm.
