Cooper College takes a stand against cancer

The event was hosted to raise awareness about the disease and the importance of getting support.

Cooper College proudly held its inaugural Cancer Walk event bringing together learners, staff, and community members for a day of solidarity and support.

Spearheaded by the college’s executive head Joulia Karamichael, a two-time cancer survivor, the event was nothing short of resilience and community spirit.

“It was truly heartwarming to see our community come together for such an important cause. Your support and participation made this event unforgettable,” said Karamichael.

During her inspiring speech, Karamichael spoke about the impact of the day, “For my staff, our learners, parents, and our larger community, the funds we raise today will provide someone in need with a fighting chance because today, for this moment, through this initiative, together, our actions matter.

“As we walk together today, let us remember that our journey is not just about survival; it’s about living fully, loving fiercely, and supporting one another. Let us hold on to the words of Victor Hugo, who said, ‘Even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise.’ We are all capable of rising above our challenges, finding light in the darkness, and forging ahead with courage and hope.”

Karamichael advised the attendees that they should take each step together to fight the disease.

“Let’s carry with us the spirit of resilience, the power of community, and the unwavering belief that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.”

The Cancer Walk aimed to raise awareness and funds for cancer support organisations, with all proceeds benefitting Rainbows and Smiles, an organisation dedicated to providing emotional and practical support to children diagnosed with cancer and their families.
