Robbers target contractors carrying cash
FOURWAYS - After a spate of incidents, the Douglasdale police are urging building contractors to make use of banking facilities rather than paying labourers in cash.
According to Warrant officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police, there has been an increase in robberies of contractors carrying large amounts of of cash outside banks, shopping centres and on building sites.
Muthan said contractors who pay their labourers’ wages in cash at the end of the week are being targeted. Muthan advised contractors to approach the banks that they deal with to inquire about payment systems, including card-less services that they have in place. Muthan advised all residents to refrain from carrying around large amounts of cash and to rather use electronic banking services.
