No bail for Jukskei Park drug dealers

JUKSKEI PARK - The three men and three women who were arrested for possession of drugs and suspected prostitution following a raid at an apartment in Jukskei Park have not been granted bail.

According to Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police, the suspects are awaiting trial at Diepkloof prison. He added that a team which specialises in human trafficking has been sent from the national police headquarters to investigate the case and to speak to the three women who the police suspect were being used as prostitutes. Douglasdale police have also discovered that the documents pertaining to the lease agreement between the owner of the Jukskei Park apartment and the three Nigerian nationals who were using the apartment as a drug den, were forged. However, the case of fraud may be transferred to Hillcrest Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal, as the owner of the apartment lives there.

Chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum, Jean Berdou, said the reason why police were able to uncover the alleged drug and sex den was because of the excellent information received from the community. “This situation shows the power of the community and police working together,” Berdou said. “The forum encourages community members to be vigilant and report suspicious activity as soon as possible.”

“In this case, the prompt acts of community members meant that the girls caught in this diabolical situation were able to be helped quickly.”

Details: Douglasdale Police Station 011 699 1333.
