Bus driver shot while transporting passengers

JOBURG- ER24 paramedics reported a bus driver is in a serious condition after he was shot on Ontdekkers Road in the West Rand on the morning of 1 April.

A Metrobus spokesperson reported that the bus was traveling to Sunninghill from the West Rand.

Paramedics from ER24 were called to the scene shortly before 6am. They said they found the bus on the side of the road near the Mollie intersection. “Upon assessment they [paramedics] found the driver of the bus, believed to be in his fifties, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Another person, believed to be a passenger on the bus, was found with a graze wound on his abdomen,” reported the paramedics.

ER24 said the driver of the bus explained that an unknown amount of suspects entered the bus as he stopped near the Mollie Road bus stop and opened fire into the bus. “The bus had several passengers on board at the time. Fortunately no one else was injured in this incident,” said ER24.

ER24 paramedics transported the injured people to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The paramedics said police were contacted to attend the incident and that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known.

It was reported that traffic was heavily delayed in the area.
