Paramedics arrived on scene to find a blue light motor vehicle pinned underneath the front of a heavy goods truck. Multiple emergency services attended to the accident, including Joburg Emergency Medical Services, Netcare 911 and the fire department.
“The fire department had to make use of specialised equipment to extricate the injured, entrapped driver from the vehicle,” confirmed Netcare 911 spokesperson, Santi Steinman. “The duration of the extrication rescue operation took more than 45 minutes, while members of the Johannesburg and Centurion fire departments worked determinedly to free the trapped man.”
After the patient was freed from the vehicle, the road was closed off in order to airlift the man to Milpark Hospital. The driver of the truck was not harmed in the incident.
“Exact details surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation,” stated Steinman. “A huge thank you and well done to all the emergency services at the scene who worked together to ensure the patient received the best possible care and treatment.”
