The videos shows the arrests which took place at a roadblock on the highway on 6 August.
The suspects allegedly tried to rob the metro police officers but were arrested.
According to Eblockwatch founder, Andre Snyman, during the roadblock, metro cops also arrested a suspect who had been spotted walking alongside the highway holding a camp chair bag.
Snyman said that when the police officers stopped the man, he pulled a rifle out of the chair bag and opened fire.
Yet the officers managed to restrain him and arrested him.
“They talk about the guy walking on the highway. This is what the smash and grab guys do. They park their cars under the bridge in the highway for quick getaway. I am sure that house robbers do the same. It would be interesting to get stats on how many people get robbed near highways. Concealing a rifle in a chair bag is also clever,” he said.
However Inspector Edna Mamonyane, spokesperson for Metro Police said there was no record of this incident having taken place.
The video of the arrests of the four suspects was submitted to Eblockwatch.
Snyman said well done to the metro officers.
6 August; 1.15 pm
Four suspects were arrested by Metro Police during a roadblock on the N1 South highway, near the William Nicol offramp.
According to Inspector Edna Mamonyane, spokesperson for Metro Police, the suspects were stopped at a roadblock on the morning of 6 August, as Metro Police believed they looked suspicious.
The suspects were armed and it is suspected that they were on their way to a robbery.
According Mamonyane the suspects actually tried to rob the Metro Police officers, who promptly called for back-up.
The suspects tried to reverse their vehicle and flee the scene but were arrested before they were able to do so.
The suspects will be taken to Randburg Police Station, where they will be charged for possession of unlicensed firearms.
All four suspects have criminal records ranging from hijacking to robbery.
6 August; 11.20 am
Police were reported to have been involved in the shootout with criminals. Metro police is also at the scene.
Four suspects were allegedly arrested and two unlicensed fire-arms were reported to have been recovered.
