Douglasdale Community Police Forum has since confirmed that shots were fired in the suburb during an alleged shootout between suspects who were attempting to hijack a vehicle and Tactical Reaction officers at the entrance to the Palazzo Hotel at Montecasino.
Fourways Review is in the process of obtaining comment from the hotel and Montecasino, as well as to confirm the forum’s report with Douglasdale police.
The forum posted on its Facebook page, “It is alleged that suspects tried to hijack a vehicle. The perpetrators cut off the victims at entrance way and approached them with their firearms drawn. Monte Tactical [Reaction officers] then engaged with the suspects. The suspects fled the scene. No [injuries] occurred.” The suspects drove off in a white 1 Series BMW. The registration is unknown.
The forum reported that the suspects were spotted by Douglasdale police at the corner of Blandford and Witkoppen roads and started to pursue them. It is unclear whether the police managed to apprehend the suspects during the early hours of 19 August.
