Douglasdale Police Station officers arrested a 25-year-old man on 30 January on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and what are suspected to be stolen goods.

The arrests were made after police spotted and stopped a vehicle with two suspects inside, in Douglasdale. One of the suspects emerged from the vehicle and allegedly started to shoot at the officers while fleeing the scene. No one was injured in the shooting. He is still at large.

Officers managed to arrest the other suspect and he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm. When the police proceeded to the suspect’s home in Kya Sands informal settlement, they found another unlicensed firearm, two magazines, live rounds of ammunition and seven cellphones.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
