The Top Cop awards are put in place to acknowledge the Douglasdale Police Station’s officers and staff members, who go beyond the call of duty, putting their lives on the line for the safety and security of community members.
This month, nominated for Best Detective is detective admin, Catherine Mwinyi.
According to Dougalasdale Police Station’s Brigadier Lettie Hugo, Mwinyi is an admin clerk for the detective service and her main function is data integrity.
“Catherine is always punctual for duty and she is always showing respect to her superiors. She is always dressed neatly according to the station’s dress code,” Hugo said.
Hugo added that Mwinyi allocates dockets on the CAS system to the investigating officers on the daily basis. “She is always doing the charging of the suspects and dispatching of fingerprints on the CAS system,” Hugo said.
She added that Mwinyi also sends, receives and postpones dockets from court daily on the CAS system and endorses them in the court book. She also closes dockets on the CAS system on a daily basis.
“Catherine also does trial-ready dockets when she receives them from the court and she writes the police 69 [results of trial] in the relevant register and forwards them to the local fingerprints office on a daily basis.”
Hugo also explained that during the month of September, Mwinyi was alone in the office and was also requested by the branch commander to work on weekends, and she went the extra mile without any complaint.
“It is motivating and encouraging to work with committed members like her,” Hugo expressed.
When asked how she felt about being nominated, Mwinyi expressed her excitement and the motivation she received from her colleagues. “I believe that I am a hard worker and being nominated proves to me that my colleagues can see the efforts I put towards the station,” Mwinyi said.
