The new astroturf was decorated with a red ribbon in honour of the opening.
Crawford Preparatory School Fourways launched their brand-new mini astroturf on 24 March with their sister schools, also using the event as a chance for pupils and their loved ones to enjoy a family day on campus.
Barbara Killian (principal of Crawford Pre-primary Fourways), Ian Rothman (principal of Crawford Preparatory Fourways) and Ingo Vogt (principal of Crawford College Lonehill) cut the ribbon as they celebrate the new astroturf together.
An astroturf is an area made of synthetic material, which resembles grass, on which sports such as field hockey or soccer is played.
During the opening ceremony, three of the principals from the greater Fourways area, Barbara Killian of Crawford Pre-primary Fourways, Ian Rothman of Crawford Preparatory Fourways and Ingo Vogt of Crawford College Lonehill were present to cut the ribbon.
The new astroturf will be used by Crawford pupils for sports like field hockey.
“The [opening] was celebrated with the Crawford Fourways family enjoying a get-together at the school with a braai,” explained Rothman.
“Once the ribbon had been cut, the pupils at the school played their first evening hockey match on the new surface,” he said.
The astroturf opening was also a chance for pupils and their loved ones to enjoy a family evening on campus.
He added that the school was looking forward to hosting a number of events on the astroturf in the future.
