Giving a special thank you to a special mom goes a long way

BRYANSTON – Bongiwe from Bryanston High School found a way to make her mom feel special with the help of McCain.

Moms are the unsung heroes of our everyday lives, they always know exactly what do say to make us feel better and can always find that missing homework book or school sock.

McCain South Africa has been focused on helping South Africans say thank you to their moms for all the little things they do for us that means everything. McCain recently helped Bongiwe, in Grade 8 at Bryanston High School, surprise her mom, Regina, with a special thank you.

Bongiwe had written an essay about her mother during one of McCain’s school activations. The team read the essay and knew they wanted to help Bongiwe say thank you.

It’s the little things that Regina does for her that make her feel loved and special, like the notes of encouragement that Bongiwe’s mom leaves in her lunch box every day.

“My mom doesn’t know it, but finding those notes in my lunch box makes me so happy, they encourage me to do better and to try and do my best,” said Bongiwe.

After reading her essay the McCain team wanted to surprise her mom for being her role model with a special lunch.

Regina got another surprise after she had cleared her plate: a special message which read ‘Thank you for being the most amazing role model’.

The team set out planning the surprise and asked Bongiwe’s dad for a little bit of behind the scenes help. Meal time in their family is a time for everyone to sit down and connect, which is why McCain decided to do a surprise lunch and include Bongiwe’s dad and little brother as well.

The day finally arrived, the table was set and Bongiwe had helped to cook her mom’s favourite meal, a delicious steak with McCain mashed potato and veggies. Bongiwe went to greet her mom, who at this point realised what was happening and burst into tears, she then led her to the table where the whole family enjoyed the delicious meal.

But the lunch wasn’t the only surprise. Regina’s meal was served on a special one-of-a-kind plate that McCain had helped her create. As Regina ate, the message that Bongiwe had written started to appear on the plate, ‘Thank you for being the most amazing role model’.

“The moment I saw the message that Bongiwe had written on the plate is something I will always remember,” said Regina.

“As a mom, you aren’t always sure you are doing the right thing, so being told that you are your child’s role model and that they are thankful for all that you do, really means a lot to me. The whole day was surreal, the lunch was amazing and I felt so incredibly special.”

McCain would like to encourage you to thank your mom for all the little things she does for you that means everything. This doesn’t have to be a huge gesture, it could be as simple as cooking a meal, making her a cup of tea or just giving her a hug and saying thank you.
