Thatch fire scare in Fourways

The Savannah Sands complex’s clubhouse roof went up in flames on 16 August and in a scary fiery scene, the Lonehill firefighters with assistance from the Randburg Fire Station managed to take control of the fire.
According to Nana Radebe, Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson, the service received the call at 6.11pm and the vehicle from Lonehill Fire Station arrived at 6.33pm.
“Backup fire crew from Randburg Fire Station responded to assist. The crew managed to contain the fire from spreading to other houses in the complex,” said Radebe.

“It took nine hours to completely extinguish the thatch roof of the dining area and two patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries but refused to be taken to a hospital.”
It is alleged that the fire started in the kitchen where the chefs were cooking.
