Six arrested suspects lead police to Sandton safe house

Six gang members who were allegedly involved in a house robbery in Bedfordview have led police to a safe house in Kelvin, Sandton.

The six suspects were arrested on 23 November after they allegedly attacked a mother and daughter at their house. One of the women was allegedly assaulted while the suspects took household goods like jewellery and electronics.

“Police recovered a stolen VW Caddy, stolen goods and a firearm following a high-speed chase along Van Buuren Road in Bedfordview at about 10am,” said Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, Gauteng spokesperson for the South African Police Service.

“Members of the Provincial Task Team were following up information about the suspected gang members and confronted them as they were driving on Van Buuren Road,” said Dlamini.

“The suspects drove away at high speed and a chase ensued. After their vehicle lost control, they were rounded up and arrested.”

‘The suspects’ arrest led police to a safe house in Kelvin, Sandton, where another two suspects were arrested. Four unlicensed firearms (an R1 rifle, a shotgun and two pistols) and ammunition were recovered, as well as stolen goods and a highjacked Honda sedan.

“Well done to the Gauteng Provincial Trio Task Team,” said Brigadier Egen Moodley, station commander of the Sandton Police Station. “The suspects were linked to robberies [at homes], housebreakings and carjackings in Linden, Bedfordview, Sandton, Douglasdale, Bramley and other areas.”
