MTN fraud case nears trial

JOBURG – The state has furnished the defence with the charge sheet – trial date could be set at next appearance.

The state has concluded its investigations against fraud accused Brendan Ruth Moshabane and has subsequently furnished the defence with the charge sheet.

On 4 December, the 42-year-old accused appeared briefly in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Johannesburg. The case was postponed to 11 January to allow the state to disclose contents of the docket to the defence.

Moshabane is accused of defrauding her former employer of about R54 million. She was employed at mobile telecommunications company MTN headquarters in Fairlands where she had held the position of account from 2003.

She was arrested in April on charges of fraud and theft and is currently out on a bail of R200 000.
