Operation #BuyaMthetho cracks the whip on taxi drivers

FOURWAYS – JMPD impounds a total number of 58 taxis.

In the past week, William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road were the sites for an ongoing taxi operation in Fourways.

On 5 March, taxi drivers that were caught driving on the wrong side of the road along Leslie Avenue were arrested and had their taxis impounded. It is reported that of the 20 impounded taxis, five were discovered to be stolen.

Since the operation’s commencement on 1 March, 58 taxis have been impounded for being unroadworthy, unlicensed or for reckless driving.

The operation is part of the Metro police’s operation #BuyaMthetho, which seeks to bring back lawfulness among motorists who use Johannesburg roads.

“Commuter safety is one of our priorities as Easter is upon us,” said David Tembe, head of the Metro police.
