Known for being a dark stretch of road, Witkoppen Road looks brighter and motorists will be able to drive better at night.
“The new street lights were paid off in the last financial year and as a councillor, it’s nice to see something being put back into our wards, especially after the death of two of our officers earlier this year,” Ward 93 councillor Candice James said.
James explained that the road can be quite dark at night and with the street lights installed, the road will be much brighter and visible.
As enthusiastic as she was about the new street lights, James however, explained that she had another concern. “As you can see there are illegal posters already pasted on the street lights, so I have a task to remove them.”
James said there were close to 94 street lights being installed thanks to the financial year-end budget. “When we were planning for street lights to be installed in the area, I had requested that more lights be installed at Cambridge Crossing where quite a number of smash-and-grabs take place. These lights are there to create security and visibility which is desperately needed in the area.”
