Diepsloot police conducts crime awareness campaign on N14

The Diepsloot Police Station in partnership with the Community Policing Forum, and community patrollers conducted a crime awareness campaign on 22 March.

The aim of the campaign was to make motorists aware of the scourge of hijackings on the N14 next to Diepsloot. The police and stakeholders converged at a garage on the N14 to warn motorists, as they drove in to fill in their tanks, about incidents of hijackings which are on the upsurge on this road.

“We wanted motorists to be aware of hijackings between Diepsloot and Malibongwe drives,” said Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, communications officer for the station.

“We have been experiencing cases of hijacking along the N14. So far there have been more than five cases of hijacking that were reported to our station. We advised motorists to phone 10 111 should they see a suspicious vehicle approaching them.”

Mathebula added that the campaign was not only intended for motorists who use the N14 on a regular basis only, but also other motorists who can be affected by crimes of hijacking.

The police are warning motorists about the following;

• Never stop along the N14 between Diepsloot and R512 as it is a hijacking hotspot
• Never stop when asked to do so by unmarked vehicles often driving with blue lights and sirens
• If you experience a problem, try to drive to the nearest filling station if possible
• Always be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles or persons when you experience breakdown along this road
• Should you see a suspicious vehicle or persons approaching you while stuck on the road, call 10111 or the Diepsloot Police Station on 011 367 3600 immediately.
