Two appear in court for kidnapping and rape

DOUGLASDALE – Two men accused of raping a woman in the Pipeline informal settlement have appeared in the Randburg Magistrates' Court.

Two suspects, aged 25 and 27, recently appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court facing charges of kidnapping and rape, according to Douglasdale police.

It is alleged that on 8 September at about 8pm, a 26-year-old woman was drinking with her boyfriend and her friend at a tavern in the Pipeline informal settlement. The three of them drank until about 2.15am the next morning at which point the victim and her friend walked home on their own, leaving the boyfriend at the tavern.

On their way home, the women were accosted allegedly by the 25-year-old suspect who accused one of the women of drinking his beers and claimed she was his girlfriend. The suspect allegedly hit the woman with a beer bottle before dragging her to another street where he raped her. The victim’s friend ran back to the tavern to alert the victim’s boyfriend about the incident. After raping the victim, the suspect then dragged the victim to his shack where his friend was sleeping.

The attacker then locked the door and went to bed. The suspect’s friend woke up and pretended to assist the victim to flee by breaking the lock. Once they were outside, he also raped her. The victim managed to escape and phoned her boyfriend who had already alerted the police. Swift reaction by the Douglasdale Police Station officers led to the arrest of the two suspects.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
