Unity College learners ready to gain skills

FOURWAYS – Special needs learners will be able to receive work experience in Level 1.

Learners of Unity College look forward to returning to their vocational training in Level 1.

The school for learners with special needs promotes the potential of learners though the provision of high quality education to equip each learner with skills to become productive, integrated members of society. Unity College also pays special attention to the preparation of its learners for the world of work through their work experience programme as well as through the Vocational Training Centre.

The work experience programme aims at giving learners an opportunity to gain a smooth transition from school education to the world of work.

Michelle Kirk, the senior admin officer for Unity College said work experience played an important role in developing a learner’s personal and social skills and gives young adolescents an important opportunity to learn directly about the world of work. “It also equips our learners with certain skills such as team working, communication skills and commercial awareness.”

She added that they looked forward to returning to various businesses for work experience in Level 1.

The work experience programme, with its recorded successes and effectiveness motivated the school to open the Vocational Training Centre where they have developed a programme specifically for the hospitality industry, using the guidance and specific job skills requirements from work experience placements providers and potential employers.
