Dainfern College welcomes new leaders

DAINFERN – Dainfern College is proud to announce its leaders for the next year.

Dainfern College was proud to induct the new student leadership body for 2020/2021 in the first socially distanced and live streamed event since the school returned to campus.

Deputy principal of pastoral care, leadership and outreach Cheryl Coetzee spoke of the school’s belief that all learners can become leaders, can be trained in leadership, and can grow in leadership. Coetzee encouraged the learners to embrace and be proud of their differences, and use the power of their differences to become world-class leaders.

At Dainfern College each learner on the Leadership Programme is appointed a specific leadership portfolio, and is assigned a personal mentor teacher who guides them and challenges them to grow their leadership skills, unlike the traditional ‘prefect’ system.

The learners’ new leadership portfolios were announced by each set of house directors before principal Matthew Davies formally inducted them.

At the end of their term of office, the leaders are assessed on their performance and how well they have managed their portfolios.

Based on this, top achievers are then rewarded with a leadership scroll, full colours or honours for leadership.
