Kind donations pour in for Fourways student development programme

FOURWAYS – Donations come in for families in the Student Development Programme at Fourways High School.

Fourways High School’s Student Development Programme (SDP) received a number of items including toiletries and groceries recently.

The SDP is an anonymous programme run by members of staff aimed at bettering the community and helping those who are struggling and are in need of assistance. Learners within the school who are identified as possible candidates are contacted and given the necessary assistance.

Kelsey Hayter who is in charge of the project said the donations have aided the families in the programme immensely especially with the Covid-19 pandemic.

“During lockdown, we have been able to still support and ensure our families have received assistance during this challenging time with groceries, toiletries as well as helping learners with online learning,” said Hayter.

The programme has received assistance from a number of organisations including Daily Bread Organisation and Pick n Pay Douglasdale as well as from parents and other learners.

Hayter said the programme is grateful for the support and is always open to more assistance from organisations. “We are hopeful that more donations come in as we will not be able to assist families in December during the school holidays.”

Carmen Rocha, from Hot91.9 and part of the Hot Cares initiative, said they have supported Fourways High’s SDP for a year. “Hot Cares became aware of the SDP programme through one of the parents at the school who assist the fund. We were very moved to see how the school support students in need with such love and dignity.”
