For the first time, Dainfern College boasted some excellent results by learners who wrote their Cambridge A- and AS- Level examinations at the end of the year.
With the school being part of the Round Square association of schools, it added Cambridge Assessment International Education to its academic offering in 2019 with the Cambridge A-Level programme as an optional exit examination. Learners can choose between the A-Level and Grade 12 programmes at the beginning of Grade 11.
Principal Matthew Davies commended the work of the learners and staff involved in achieving outstanding results. “The results from the inaugural A-Level class are cause for celebration of the excellent integration of this additional academic programme,” said Davies.
He added this was due to the superb teaching of the Cambridge staff under the leadership of Joulia Karmichael, director of Cambridge Studies at the school.
Learners who wrote the A-Level exams achieved a 100 per cent pass rate and 100 per cent access to tertiary studies. Top learner Xiaoya Huang wrote four A-Level exams, accomplished an average of 83.75 per cent, and achieved As in mathematics and chemistry, and an A plus in Chinese.
Grade 11 learner Hamza Mahmood was the standout of the AS learners who attained four As in biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry. At the end of this year, the group of AS learners will write their A-Level exams.
Karmichael also extended her heartiest congratulations to the learners who wrote their A-Level exams given the circumstances Covid-19 brought.
“The results attained in the 2020 Cambridge Assessment International Education examinations by our Dainfern College students are testament to the professionalism and dedication of our academic staff, as well as the resilience, grit and commendable work ethic of our students.”
“We are most grateful for the wholehearted support of parents and salute the achievements of our Cambridge students in the Class of 2020,” she concluded.
