Call to support South African Guide-Dogs Association
PAULSHOF – The upcoming 94.7 Ride Joburg race has the South African Guide-Dogs Association looking for members of the community to ride and become a Litter Legend.
The South African Guide-Dogs Association is calling on community members to take part in their upcoming cycling race.
The 25th edition of the 94.7 Ride Joburg race is set to take place on November 21 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg and is a 97km-long road race. Due to Covid regulations, teams will be released in batches with various start times.
Events manager at the association Yolande van Rooyen said having members of the community ride in the Litter Legends race would raise awareness about what the association did for many people.
“SA Guide-Dogs solely relies on the support of individuals and corporates to help the disabled community of South Africa. We are inviting cyclists to sign up and cycle for Team Guide Dogs. We need your support to help our puppies grow into an essential part of a disabled person’s life,” she said.

“They [association] breed and train their own dogs namely guide dogs for people who are visually impaired, service dogs for people who are physically disabled and autism support dogs for children who are on the low autism spectrum.”
Van Rooyen said with riders taking part in the race for the association, they were hoping to meet a number of goals while raising awareness about the importance of guide dogs in society.
“Not only will cyclists have the benefit of an earlier starting time but when they fundraise for us they will also become a part of our Litter Legends Programme.
“We are hoping to raise R100 000 toward sponsoring a litter that’s born close to the race day. Being part of this programme, you will become a legend in this litters’ eyes.”
