HeronBridge College launches new high-performance centre

HeronBridge College launched their first-ever high-performance sports centre for athletes and staff at the school on November 5.

The afternoon saw a number of learners of the school’s various sporting codes take part in a circuit workout headed by school coach Masrour Ehrman.
The centre is open to learners and staff who will use it for free when training in their respective teams or for PE lessons.

Head of co-curricular development, Ofentse Moeng said he and college head of co-curricular Philip Venter have been working on the idea of the centre since last year.

“We’ve come a very long way since starting this journey. Us opening the centre now and not last year is certainly a blessing in disguise, especially since from next year things would be more open than last year,” said Moeng.
“I don’t know if we would have had the time last year to do all this planning.”
Sport supplement company USN has also come on board for the purposes of nutrition and diet to help the young athletes.

“We have an education first approach with USN when it comes to nutrition and what is important for the athlete. That way we can assure parents that what is used is safe and certified in their [USN’s] Blue Series,” he said.
Moeng extended his deepest thanks to the school’s staff for their continued support leading up to the launch.
“I think with this centre open now, it comes with the responsibility that’s on all our shoulders. We as the coaches and learners don’t have an excuse now, this centre is here and we need to use the resources to take our sport to the next level.”
