The tournament was organised by Ngoako Ramolesena, a community member and coach of one of the teams. He said he organised this tournament to focus on the youth with the aim of eradicating crime and gangsterism and to also bring the community together through soccer.
The event saw the participation of 14 teams from Diepsloot and surrounding areas. The tournament was originally supposed to take place on Saturday and Sunday but the first day had to be postponed due to the rain.

Selina Manjola, a parent of one of the participants said tournaments such as these kept their children away from drugs and crime. “I believe that it’s very important for us to be here to support them and to watch them play, and I believe that it’s something that can make them grow and also grow their talent,” she added.

Peter Mothapo, the coach of Real Sloot said, “If you look at our society, we need such events where our players and kids will participate every now and then. Our kids use sport to run away from problems such as crime and drugs.”
