Founder of Daily Bread Chaimaine Mcginley said she expects the girls to take the message of "no to teenage pregnancy" forward.

Miss Umoja has made its annual comeback this year, with young hopefuls vying for the crown.

The pageant was started in 2010 by local NPO Daily Bread Organisation as part of their development programme. The Miss Umoja initiative is aimed at developing girls from different townships such as Cosmo City, Diepsloot and Bloubosrand.

Youth leader and volunteer at Daily Bread Bridget Phiri said, “We look at developing the individual, developing the girls and giving them different chance and giving them different chance and giving them a different view to life.”

The girls formally met each other at the first Miss Umoja 2022 meeting on July 30 where Phiri briefed them on what to expect during the pageant.

The youngsters will undergo various training sessions such as how to walk, how to talk and how to answer questions.

The theme for this year is teenage pregnancy. The girls will have to do research on teenage pregnancy in the community and present the information that they found during the final event on October 20.

Founder of Daily Bread Chaimaine Mcginley said she expects the girls to take the message of ‘no to teenage pregnancy’ forward.

The winner of the pageant will have to volunteer at Daily Bread and do something in the community during her year of reign.
