Community puts their best foot forward for Douglasdale CPF

In efforts to raise funds for the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum, Sector 4 of the CPF alongside the Douglasdale organised a fun run at Steyn City.

The greater Fourways community took part in the recent inaugural fundraiser organised by Sector 4 of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) and police.

Not even the threat of ominous clouds and heavy rain could keep families and fitness fanatics away from taking part in either the 3,5km or 5km race along the illustrious Steyn City property. After the race, attendees who kept their wrist bands were granted access to the property’s 300m lagoon pool for a relaxing swim and fun in the sun that eventually shone in the sky.

Sector 4 chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, Manoj Bhoola, said the Douglasdale police work very closely with the CPF to run campaigns and activities to prevent crime in the area.
“The CPF is always about bringing the police and community together, and the recent we are doing this is to assist the police in addressing the crime in our precinct. We’ve been running a lot of campaigns throughout the year, and some of these campaigns use a lot of funding. While we can get a sponsor to assist, part of our mandate is to do some fundraising,” he said.

The Douglasdale police and CPF committee sat down together to discuss how to do some fundraising while involving the community, which is where the concept of a fun run/walk was brought up.

“Doing the fun run/walk in a safe and secure environment made more sense to us, and that’s when we discussed different estates,” said Bhoola.
“Steyn City came to mind because they have an amazing team there and have experience in this. They participate in other activities there like fun runs and cycle challenges.”
The chairperson said it’s hoped to have this event run annually after receiving positive feedback from those who took part in the run. He continued to thank all those involved in the event, including Steyn City,” he said.

“It was really an amazing event. We raised a huge amount of money, with our only sponsor being those who took part. Maybe one thing we could improve is to have changed the date. There are park runs and school activities, but we’ll have to see.”
