Learners at Crawford International Fourways enjoyed their first Covid-free braai with family and staff.
The school decorated its sports field with many jumping castles and food stalls, with plenty of space for families to lay down picnic blankets.
Principal Ian Rothman was grateful for the great weather the event was previously postponed due to rain. “We as a school try as much as possible to live as part of a community, so this is our first real event. We tried to invite all of our families to give them time to relax and connect,” he said.
“This is about spending time, having a braai, jumping castles and music. We have had a really good turnout of over 500 people who have responded.”
There was also a competition for the family with the best-decorated picnic setting according to the school’s four secondary schools.
Rothman said there is excitement for upcoming events at the school this year. “I think 2023 has been a year that we can start again with a normal outlook on great success throughout the whole year. We had a bit of a difficult start to last year due to Covid. We’re quite excited just to get together as a community,” he concluded.
Client experience officer at the school, Tasneem Evans echoed Rothman’s comments. She added that the learners like to celebrate special events on the calendar. “Any opportunity to bring our parent body on campus to have fun, celebrate, establish relationships face-to-face in an easy setting. That is what we are about,” she said.
