Crawford International Lonehill’s first-team girls are over the moon after clinching gold at the 2023 National Co-Education Tournament. They were crowned the top girls’ co-education team in South Africa during the water polo games.

The girls were undefeated in their pool games which qualified them for the semi-finals against Reddam Bedfordview.

They went head-to-head during the final game against the Kingswood team from Grahamstown, in Gqeberha.

Robyn Swanepoel said: “These girls displayed fantastic all-rounded water polo teamwork, six goals, and a formidable defence in pressured situations in their final game.”

The purpose of the tournament is all about spirit and support over five days with 20 participating schools playing the girls’ and boys’ games concurrently.

“Our 1st team boys finished in 15th place beating Curro Hillcrest 5-4 in their final game. They have shown huge growth over the last few months, and we look forward to watching this team go from strength to strength,” said Swanepoel.

The school gives a huge shout-out and thank you to Alexis, Aséa, Georgia, Jade, Jaime, Michael and Louvhan who are in Grade 12, for their unending commitment to representing their school.

“We would also like to thank all our coaches for always encouraging our players to keep their heads up at all times; to show sportsmanship and to play their hardest in every game while reaching their full potential.”
