Firearm stolen in Boksburg shows up in Fourways

A 23-year-old male was arrested to only find a firearm reported stolen in Boksburg.

A firearm reported stolen in Boksburg in November last year, was recovered from a 23-year-old male in the Kya Sand area by Douglasdale SAPS members who were conducting an operation.

It is alleged that security guards who were patrolling the area cornered the suspect after he had tried to rob a passerby at a dumping site in Kya Sand. The suspect was searched and found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The police were alerted about the incident. The suspect was arrested and detained at Douglasdale Police Station.

The suspect appeared in Randburg Magistrate’s Court on October 23, and the case was postponed to October 30, for further investigation. “We applaud the collaboration between the police and the security companies in their mission to ensure that the community of Douglasdale is and feels safe, “said the Douglasdale SAPS station commander, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum.

Douglasdale SAPS alongside other law enforcement agencies arrested 34 other suspects during operations that were conducted throughout the area from October 19 to October 22. The suspects were arrested for different crimes, ranging from possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, business breaking and theft, housebreakign and theft, contravention of Section 49(1) of the Immigration Act and Section 38 of the Immigration Act, reckless and negligent driving, dealing in liquor without licence, theft and shoplifting.
