Curro learners get up close with mobile zoo animals
The school hosted guests who got the learners excited while learning more about the wild animal kingdom.
Learners at Curro Douglasdale had a hiss-terical time when a mobile zoo slithered its way onto campus to bring a scaly squad of snakes and chameleons amongst other crawling animals with it.
The students got the opportunity to get up close and personal with the animals. They enjoyed a hands-on experience that allowed them to touch, observe, and most importantly, learn about these fascinating creatures.
Leelyn Olifant, the school’s marketer, said the learners were captivated by all the animals presented during the session.

“We witnessed particular fascination with uncommon species, such as the baby dragons and the big green iguana. They were also intrigued by their interaction with a hedgehog and were especially fascinated by the softness of the chinchilla. Additionally, they were quite interested to feel the textures of the multiple snakes presented to them.
“There were many presented but overall, the entire presentation sparked their curiosity and broadened their understanding of wildlife. Our primary objective of the travelling zoo event was to provide an interactive and educational experience for the learners.”

She said the event aligned perfectly with the school’s curriculum, particularly in the areas of social science and natural science. In these subjects, learners explore wildlife, including the origins thereof.
“They also study the regions where specific animals are typically found. The presenters from the travelling zoo delved into the history and habitats of all the animals they showcased, reinforcing the content covered at our school. We strive to ignite curiosity in our learners, encouraging them to explore and learn more about the world around them; the travelling zoo succeeded in achieving this goal.”
Olifant says that the school has plans to host similar events in the future.
She said their guests from the travelling zoo were well received by the learners. “Our learners demonstrated excellent behaviour and engagement. Given the positive feedback and enthusiasm from our learners, we believe that hands-on experiences, like this one, will further enrich our curriculum.”
