City revenue department brings services to pensioners

Residents rejoice as the city revenue department launches an awareness campaign in Sunninghill to help pensioners with property rebates, checking application statuses, logging queries, and receiving online statements via the e-Joburg platform.

Sunninghill and Lonehill pensioners were pleased by the presence of representatives from the City Revenue Department to assist with property rebate applications and enhance community awareness regarding essential municipal services.

The session was held at Sunninghill Village Shopping Centre, and aimed at simplifying access to vital services such as pensioner rebates, checking the status of applications, logging queries, and linking customers to receive online statements via e-Joburg.

Jabu Dlamini, deputy director for stakeholder relations at the City Revenue Department, remarked, “our mission with this campaign is to bring vital municipal services directly to the customers, ensuring that every resident has the tools and information they need to make the most of available benefits.

“We understand that navigating these applications can be difficult, and we’re here to help smoothen that process. We plan to go around retirement villages and community halls to help more pensioners.”

Many residents benefited from on-site assistance for their property rebate applications. Individuals were able to receive immediate feedback on their applications, check their statuses, log queries, and understand how to access electronic statements through the e-Joburg platform.

One of the residents, Cazz Roodt, who was accompanying her old mother, Zelda Roodt, expressed her gratitude for the session saying, “this session has been helpful and educational; as you can imagine my mother is old and suffered a stroke so it can be very difficult to go to the walk-in centres. For the city to bring this to us has been very helpful and effective.”

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. “This campaign is a vital step in improving our community’s engagement with municipal services. We want our residents to feel empowered and equipped with the knowledge necessary to access the rebates and services they deserve.

“I am quite overjoyed with the response of people here, and we hope to bring this back to the ward early next month to help more residents. I encourage residents to give this a chance because not all issues can be resolved in one day.”

Reddy encouraged residents to keep an eye out for further initiatives in the coming weeks as the city continues to enhance access to important services.

Residents who can’t make it to the awareness campaign, or walk-in centres, can contact Jabu Dlamini at jabud@joburg.org.za for assistance on the rebate application, or to check the status of their applications.
