Lonehill Chess Academy Tournament sees fierce competition and surprise winners
This years tournament broke records and pushed the boundaries of chess excellence according to the organisers.
The annual chess academy tournament hosted by Lonehill Chess Academy concluded with a thrilling finale, showcasing the skills of 35 participants across four categories.

This year’s event marked a significant expansion, opening registration to external participants and introducing an adult section.
“We had a good gender representation with 16 female participants in the tournament across all sections. Last year, we only had the academy learners but this year we added around eight schools where we run the extramural programme of chess coaching activity with around 80 plus learners who also were part of the tournament registration,” said the founder and director of the academy, Jay Venkat.

The tournament saw intense competition, particularly in Section A for rated/advanced level players and the adult section, where finals rounds were tightly contested.
Three winners were declared in each section, taking home medals, certificates, and surprise gifts.
The tournament featured a professional arbiter, enhancing the event’s management and paving the way for rated tournaments from 2025 onwards.
The event’s success has sparked excitement for next year’s tournament, promising an even more thrilling experience.
“We hope to organise more professional level rated tournaments from 2025 onwards.”
