‘I feel good kid’ Desi Koolen bags Kid Influencer of the Year gong at the South African Social Media Awards

Last year, Desmond 'Desi' Koolen grabbed the attention of the American actor and rapper Will Smith with his rendition of the I Feel Good song by James Brown, making him an overnight internet sensation. He has now won a prestigious award for simply being kind as the 'I feel good kid'

With his infectious personality, creative talents, and passion for spreading kindness, Desmond Koolen, aka Desi, who broke the internet as the ‘I feel good kid’ is reaping the benefits of simply being the best.

Desi has built a loyal following across social media platforms and it paid off when he was crowned the Kid Influencer of the Year during the fourth annual South African Social Media Awards on November 23.

He said he was using his platform to make a difference and inspire others to do the same. So, what sets Desi apart from other kid influencers? For him, it’s all about being true to himself.

“The way you see me is how I am in real life and I try to be as real as possible. I don’t see myself as competing with other kid influencers and I truly use my platform to spread kindness and joy and showcase my talents. I believe that by doing this, I have the opportunity to show everyone out there that no dream is impossible.”

This authenticity has helped Desi build a loyal following and establish himself as a role model for young children everywhere.

“It was such a great feeling having my name called up as the kid influencer of the year, especially considering that I was nominated alongside big names in the industry and kids who have been doing this for much longer than I have. It is nice to have the trophy confirming that what I am putting out there is making a difference.”

He said he lived to spread kindness which was why his message was simple yet powerful: “Just be you, and that is your superpower.”

Desi believes that everyone has something unique to offer and that by embracing their individuality, they can make a positive impact on the world.

He also talks about the importance of kindness and compassion, reminding his followers that ‘fame will fade, but it’s how you make someone feel that will last a lifetime’.

He said with his Kid Influencer of the Year award in hand, he was looking forward to an exciting year ahead. He has a few big campaigns lined up, and will also be preparing for the Young Performers Competition and World Champs in Los Angeles.
