Local gymnast inspires next generation
Local gymnast Tamsin Schrimpton is returning to competition, following a brief break, looking to get her hands on gold, as well as to inspire a new generation of gymnasts at Junxion Gymnastics.
Tamsin Schrimpton, a resilient athlete from our community and a dedicated coach at Junxion Gymnastics Gym, is back on the gymnastics floor, ready to compete after taking some time off.
Having started gymnastics at the age of nine, considered a late entry by most standards, Schrimpton fondly recalled the moment she was first captivated by the sport.

“Every Friday after school, I would see gymnastics happening in the hall, and begged my mother to let me try it.” That trial class ignited a passion that has grown stronger over the years.
Her journey as a competitive gymnast has been filled with memorable moments, notably the rigorous practice sessions. Schrimpton vividly remembers the struggle of mastering a roundoff flick back tuck on the floor, but thanks to encouragement from her coaches and teammates, whom she describes as family, she eventually conquered the challenge. “The support I received was instrumental in building my confidence in the sport.”

After nearly a decade of intensive training and competition, Tamsin decided to step back after high school, feeling physically and mentally exhausted.
“At one point, I lost the spark I once had for the sport,” she explained. Pursuing tertiary education, while coaching at Junxion Gymnastics, she worked to find balance in her life.
It was her head coach who ultimately reignited her passion, motivating her to return to competition. “I’d been having fun tumbling, and my coach saw potential in me. This encouragement led me to train for an upcoming international competition in Malta.”

As a coach at Junxion Gymnastics, Schrimpton has found a rewarding outlet to shape young gymnasts’ confidence and self-esteem. “Seeing a gymnast overcome their fears and achieve skills they thought were impossible is an incredible feeling.”
Training four days a week, Schrimpton meticulously balances her roles as a coach and an athlete. “I plan my weeks to ensure I dedicate time to both coaching and training.”

With the Malta competition drawing near, excitement and nerves swirl in equal measure. “To be back on the competition floor feels breathtaking,” Tamsin said. With familial and coaching support revitalising her spirit, she aims to deliver confident routines across all events. Her personal goal is to push herself to compete to the best of her ability.
Through her coaching at Junxion Gymnastics, Tamsin aspires to leave a lasting legacy – molding not just talented gymnasts but also resilient individuals. “I want to inspire and motivate the gymnasts I coach,” she affirmed.
As she embarks on this next chapter in her gymnastics journey, Schrimpton’s long-term goals focus on continual growth within the sport and making a significant impact on young gymnasts. “It’s never too late to chase your dreams,” she said, embodying the dedication and passion that have defined her journey thus far.
