Fourways High crowned Camp Discovery Champs

Fourways High School soccer boys made their mark at Camp Discovery as the U19s lifted the champions trophy while the U17s impressed with a strong quarter-final run, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Fourways High School’s soccer boys ended their Camp Discovery tour on a high as the U19 team were crowned champions of the annual Camp Discovery Soccer Festival, winning the final on July 8 after a weekend of intense competition in Dinokeng, Limpopo.

The U19 squad fought hard to secure their place in the final, delivering a 3-1 penalty shootout victory in the semi-final against Pinnacle Copperleaf after a tight match, showcasing composure and teamwork under pressure.

“The boys showed grit and focus throughout the festival, and to see them lift the trophy was a brilliant moment for the team,” said Anthony Clayton, head of extramurals at Fourways High School.

The final match saw the U19s continue their disciplined play and attacking flair to secure the title of Camp Discovery champions, capping off a successful warm-up tournament ahead of the Term 3 soccer season.

Meanwhile, the U17 team also had a strong showing, making it to the quarter-finals on July 7 before narrowly losing 2-1. Although disappointed, the team showed outstanding spirit and determination throughout the festival, with several hard-fought wins under their belt.

“It was sad to lose in the quarters, but the U17s put in a brilliant performance, gaining experience and building confidence for the season ahead,” said Clayton.

The Camp Discovery festival brought together soccer schools from around the country, providing Fourways High’s teams with the opportunity to test themselves against top competition while growing in skill, unity, and match sharpness.

Thando Sikhakhane (U17) and Keabetswe Modise (U19) were named MVPs in their age group, recognising their skill and consistent performances throughout the festival.

With the U19s returning home as champions and the U17s proving their potential, Fourways High School’s soccer season is set for an exciting Term 3.
