Discovery Cup crowns Crawford International Lonehill Preparatory girls’ soccer team champions

After a phenomenal unbeaten season, Crawford International Lonehill Preparatory girls’ soccer team lifted the Discovery Cup, marking a historic moment for the school and showcasing the bright future of local football.

Crawford International Lonehill Preparatory girls’ soccer team has etched their names into the history books with an undefeated run in the prestigious Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association Discovery Primary Schools Knockout Cup, one of Johannesburg’s most exciting inter-primary school tournaments.

Over six weeks of intense competition, the team showcased exceptional skill, discipline, and teamwork, sweeping aside all challengers on their path to the trophy.

The final was held at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Stadium on June 30, where the team held their nerve in a tense and tightly contested match.

A single goal sealed their 1–0 victory, securing the Discovery Cup and cementing a historic win for the school.

“Our girls showed true character, composure, and commitment throughout the season,” said coach Loui Petersen. “Every game was played with heart, and I am incredibly proud of how they represented the school, on and off the field.”

Their success extended beyond the Discovery Cup, with the team also claiming victory at the Montrose Night Challenge, one of the major highlights on the school football calendar, underscoring their dominance in the sport this year.

Highlighting the depth of talent at Crawford Lonehill, five players were selected to represent the school at the area district Trials during the Discovery Festival: Onakho Tom, Mutsa Madziba, Rorisang Tlali, Nataizya Masiya, and Phakama Dube.

Tom was chosen for the Southerns provincial team to compete at the Fran Hilton Smith Provincial Tournament, a platform that scouts the country’s next generation of football stars.

Crawford International Lonehill Preparatory has extended heartfelt congratulations to the entire team, coaching staff, and supporters for a season that will be remembered as one of the most remarkable in the school’s sporting history.

  • Round 1: Crawford 8–0 Montrose Primary
  • Round 2: Crawford 5–0 Leicester Road SchoolRound 3: Crawford 2–1 Bedfordview Primary
  • Quarter-finals: Crawford 3–1 Craighall Primary
  • Semi-finals: Crawford 2–1 Cliffview Primary
  • Final: Crawford 1–0 Pinnacle Founders Hill
