What started as a modest dream in Fourways has grown into one of Africa’s most luxurious teen events.

At just 18 years old, Santiago Mark Andrew is redefining what it means to celebrate matriculants. This year, the Matric Ball returns bigger, bolder, and unapologetically rebranded as The Met Gala for Matrics.
Set to dazzle on December 4 at the prestigious @Sandton Hotel, the Matric Ball is no longer just another farewell. Instead, it’s a night designed to spotlight the style, talent, and vision of South Africa’s graduating Class of 2025.

“For one night only, learners won’t be seen as kids in uniform,” said Santiago. “They’ll step onto the red carpet as the main characters in their own stories. This isn’t about blending in. It’s about breaking out.”
The Matric Ball 2025 goes beyond glitz. Matriculants nationwide are invited to apply, not only for a ticket, but for recognition as creatives, leaders, and change-makers. Categories highlight achievements in entrepreneurship, sport, academics, the arts, youth advocacy, and fashion. Successful applicants will secure their place by purchasing a ticket valued at R1 600 per person.

In addition, the event has partnered with Blessing Lives, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering young people. Through this collaboration, three underprivileged learners will receive fully sponsored Matric Ball experiences, complete with outfits, hair, makeup, transport, and entrance.

“This initiative is rooted in our belief that every learner deserves to be celebrated, regardless of circumstance,” said Tiamara Andrew of Blessing Lives.

Santiago, who hosted his inaugural Matric Ball last year to resounding success, says his vision has always been to create a platform that honours the long journey of schooling, while spotlighting the future leaders of South Africa. “Teens spend nearly 12 years working toward this moment. This event is a tribute to that journey. It’s more than a ball; it’s an induction into adulthood, a celebration of culture, and a platform for young people who want to change the world.

The event promises an experience unlike any other with:
