The Fourways teen redefining Matric Ball
Fourways teen entrepreneur transforms matric ball into Africa's premier luxury youth experience.
What started as a local celebration of matriculants has blossomed into Africa’s most luxurious teen event, thanks to the vision and drive of Fourways’ own Santiago Mark Andrew.
At just 18 years old, this young entrepreneur is once again at the helm of the iconic Matric Ball, returning in 2025 with an even grander scale and a bold new direction.
Last year, Santiago hosted his inaugural Matric Ball, a success that celebrated the achievements of local matriculants. Now, he’s back, bigger and better, transforming the event into a platform that not only celebrates but also spotlights South Africa’s most outstanding young individuals.

The 2025 Matric Ball, set to take place on October 4 at the prestigious @Sandton Hotel, is introducing an exciting new aspect. Matriculants from all over the country are invited to apply to attend the event. All individuals who are selected will compete for the crowns.
The crowns are given to a male and female attendee who best embody the spirit of the evening. Judged on the creativity and uniqueness of their outfits and entrances, these two matriculants will have the chance to take home the coveted crowns.

This isn’t just a fashion show, the event is actively seeking ‘creatives, leaders, and change makers’ – young people passionate about uplifting their peers and communities.

The application process, open to all Grade 12 matriculants of 2025, aims to identify and celebrate individuals who demonstrate excellence in a range of fields, including entrepreneurship, innovation, sport, academics, the arts, youth advocacy, and fashion.
“We’re looking for young founders building businesses, creatives shaping culture, athletes pushing boundaries, academic achievers, and community change-makers,” said Santiago.
Applicants will submit their information, chosen category, and a supporting portfolio via an online form.
A significant aspect of the 2025 event is its commitment to community upliftment. The Matric Ball has partnered with Blessing Lives, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering young people.

Through this partnership, three underprivileged learners will receive a fully sponsored Matric Ball experience, including outfits, hair, makeup, transportation, and entrance. “This initiative is rooted in our belief that every learner deserves to be celebrated, regardless of circumstance,” said Tiamara Andrew of Blessing Lives.

Santiago concluded, “My dream was to create an event that celebrates our culture and our youth in a way that feels authentic and truly special. After all, teens spend nearly 12 years in school, this event is a tribute to that journey. It’s a much-needed platform for young people who want to change the world and make an impact. The Matric Ball isn’t just an event but a platform for the very best attendees of the Class of 2025.”
