JRA repairs sinkhole on Dulcie Close, tar reinstatement still pending
The Johannesburg Roads Agency has completed structural repairs to the sinkhole on Dulcie Close, with only the reinstatement of tar outstanding.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has completed repairs on the sinkhole that recently appeared on Dulcie Close in Lonehill.
The final step now is the reinstatement of the tar around the repaired section.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley confirmed the progress, explaining that the sinkhole was caused by a leaking pipe that led to a collapse in the stormwater infrastructure. “The JRA has fixed the issue, and the area is now stable. The only outstanding matter is the reinstatement of the tar, which we hope will follow shortly,” said Foley.

Earlier this month, residents raised concerns after the ground gave way near a stormwater drain. Temporary barricades were put in place while JRA assessed the site and initiated repairs.
According to Foley, the intervention has addressed the root cause of the collapse, ensuring that the structure is sound and safe for motorists and pedestrians. “We are grateful for the swift response and the community’s vigilance in reporting this,” he added.
In their earlier response to Fourways Review, HOD regional operations at JRA, Khayalethu Gqibitolethe, confirmed that the collapse was caused by a dislodged stormwater pipe. “Our structures team is currently busy with another project, but upon completion, the sinkhole will be prioritised. The repairs that will take place on the structure will be a long-term solution; new pipes will be installed.”
Residents are advised to continue exercising caution until the tar reinstatement is completed.
