It’s been a golden season for Steyn City School’s rising star Erin Naik, who recently returned from the South African Championship of Performing Arts with an astounding 27 medals to her name.
The Grade 9 pupil’s triumph marks the culmination of years of hard work, determination, and passion for performance.
Reflecting on her success, Erin described the experience as an indescribable feeling.

“Winning 27 medals at a national level is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that has been put in over the past three years. I’m grateful for the support system I’ve had, particularly my coaches, who have been a constant source of guidance and motivation.”
Among her achievements, Erin’s solo medals stand out, earned across a diverse range of vocal genres and instrumental categories, including drums, piano, and guitar.
She also proudly retained an overall trophy for the third consecutive year, a remarkable feat that underscores her consistency and talent.
Her favourite moment of the competition came during her Broadway/musical theatre performance, a genre she feels especially connected to.
“I love acting, and the opportunity to bring an iconic character to life was a dream come true. The process of getting into character, from costume and hair, to makeup and accessories, is a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding.”

For Erin, there’s no magic formula for success just discipline, preparation, and passion. “When we’re well-prepared, we can let go of nerves and simply enjoy the experience. I love being on stage, performing for myself and my teammates, and cheering on my competitors too.”
Despite her many accolades, Erin remains humble and grounded, emphasising the importance of community and encouragement. “Achievements aren’t just about personal success; they’re about being part of a community that lifts each other up. A kind word or smile can boost someone’s confidence and make a real difference.”
As she continues her journey in the performing arts, Erin remains deeply thankful to her school and mentors.
“I am so thankful to my school for their never-ending support, and to my coaches for their guidance and advice. I will be forever grateful to them.”
