Lonehill closes 2025 with community strength amid infrastructure strain

Despite a year marked by failing infrastructure, service delays, and environmental setbacks, Lonehill’s residents, emergency teams, and the LRA pulled together to keep crime low, protect shared spaces, and safeguard local services, setting a determined tone for 2026.

As 2025 draws to a close, Shelly Miller of the Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) took a moment to reflect on a year marked by both challenges and remarkable collective effort.

While deteriorating infrastructure, rapid urbanisation, and strained municipal services continued to place pressure on residents, the spirit of cooperation that defines Greater Lonehill remained unwavering.

According to Miller, ward councillors once again found themselves navigating the space between frustrated residents and overwhelmed service providers. Yet, through this difficult terrain, Lonehill’s sense of resilience held firm. “This year has shown us, once again, the power of a community that stands together.”

She said that despite the obstacles, Lonehill continues to distinguish itself as a safe and connected neighbourhood. Crime statistics remain significantly lower than those of neighbouring areas, an achievement the LRA attributes to the continued support of residents who contribute time, sponsorships, and resources.

“The Environment Team faced a particularly challenging year as invasive weeds continued to spread across Lonehill Dam and along the stream banks. After several unsuccessful interventions, the team returned to manual removal, an immense task for a small crew.”

With a national shortage of Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics impacting emergency response times countrywide, Lonehill remains fortunate to have its own 24/7 ALS unit. The ALS team has maintained a steadfast presence throughout the year, responding to emergencies with professionalism and compassion.

“Supporting local readiness is Fidelity SecureFire, the community’s private fire-response partner, operating around the clock with a fully equipped fire engine permanently based within Lonehill.”

The LRA enters the new year with renewed optimism and determination. “2026 is an important year for our country and our community. We look ahead with hope, hope for stronger leadership, greater unity, and a renewed commitment to delivering on the promises our nation depends on.

“To every resident who contributes to the Lonehill Community Improvement Initiative and the community’s security infrastructure, the LRA expresses heartfelt appreciation. Thank you for supporting your community. Your contribution makes all the difference.”

As the festive season approaches, the Fidelity Security Lonehill Team, along with the directors and staff of the LRA, extend warm wishes to all residents, partners, families, and friends. May the holidays be filled with peace, safety, and joy, and may Lonehill continue to shine in the year ahead.
