Douglasdale CPF urges safe festive travel with essential e-hailing tips

Douglasdale CPF is calling on residents to stay alert and prioritise their safety when using e-hailing services. From verifying your ride to sharing your trip, the CPF shares practical tips to keep every journey safer during the holidays and throughout the year.

As the festive season brings families together and celebrations light up the community, the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) is reminding residents to prioritise their personal safety, especially when using e-hailing services.

The CPF emphasises that safety is not only a festive-season concern but a year-round responsibility. Whether heading to a holiday event, visiting loved ones, or commuting for everyday errands, staying vigilant can prevent crime and protect both passengers and drivers.

“Stay safe, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to SAPS on 10111,” said the Douglasdale CPF Team.

E-hailing safety tips for all seasons

To help residents travel more confidently this festive period and beyond, the Douglasdale CPF encourages community members to follow these simple but crucial guidelines:

  • Be aware of your surroundings while waiting for your ride, and avoid isolated areas to reduce the risk of snatch-and-grab incidents.
  • Verify the driver’s details and vehicle registration before getting in. Use the app’s PIN verification feature if available.
  • Know your destination, map out your route beforehand so you can track your trip.
  • Sit in the back seat whenever possible, and ensure the rear doors are not locked with a child lock.
  • Share your trip with a trusted friend or family member for real-time safety monitoring.
  • Keep your phone charged and accessible throughout your journey.
  • Trust your instincts if anything feels off, cancel the trip and request another ride.

The CPF encourages residents to report emergencies or suspicious behaviour immediately by contacting SAPS Emergency: 10111.
