Why parental involvement matters in your child’s learning journey

Parents aren’t just spectators in their children’s education, they’re the most important partners. These are simple ways you can support learning at home and help your child succeed this school year.

As learners across the country prepare to return to school, one truth remains constant: A parent is the most important partner in a child’s education.

The role parents play goes far beyond signing homework books or attending meetings. According to the department of education website, successful parental involvement means active, ongoing participation in a child’s learning journey, from the early years right through to their final school days.

Schools and families share a common goal, to guide children into becoming confident, capable young adults who can contribute meaningfully to the country’s future.

This requires partnership, communication, and a shared commitment to a child’s growth.

Importantly, every parent has a role to play. “Regardless of education level, income, race, ethnicity, or religion, parents carry the responsibility of being involved in their children’s education,” the department says.

“When this happens, the learning and teaching that takes place in the classroom is strengthened, making it easier for teachers to do their work and easier for children to succeed.”
